MINISTRY PLAN UPDATE

In behalf of efforts to move our ministry plan forward, we are pleased to announce that Debbie Lazzara will for the summer months lead children’s ministry, which will help to enable Barbara Schafer to give more time and effort to building our Life Group ministry. This is a good development for us, since both children’s ministry and small groups play such key roles in our ministry plan. Debbie and Barbara are both terrific leaders, and their work in these two primary ministries will be of great benefit to CBC. Please convey your support and encouragement to them both.

KORNERSTONE KIDS (K-5th graders) MINISTRIES

It is our desire to expand our children’s ability to see that God’s love can be shared as they live to serve others. For this reason, our emphasis for this particular midweek program is all about being the church and being the arms and feet of Christ to others.

  1. We received a first hand account from Debbie Lazzara on her trip to Uganda. We made fleece blankets for Ugandan children and actually experienced some of what life is like for Ugandan children the ages of our Kornerstone Kids. Kornerstone kids age snacks (with their hands like the Ugandan children do) of bananas, pineapple, nuts, rice and beans.
  2. Our Kornerstone Kids met at a home and completed two “service” projects. We baked cookies for US soldiers serving in Iraq and prepared a dry soup mix for families at the Resurrection House here in St. Petersburg.
  3. We had missionary family headed to Africa come to explain what life will be like in Africa. We were privileged that they and their children were willing to spend time with us. We also made colorful bracelets.
  4. We visited Shore Acres Nursing Home to make crafts with residents to bring joy to their day.

CALLING ALL POST COLLEGE AGE YOUNG ADULTS

  • Seeking truth and substance in worship
  • Seeking biblical principles for work and life application
  • Seeking authentic fellowship with believing young adults
  • Seeking opportunities unchurched friends will attend

These are the main priorities some of our young adults have expressed that they are both appreciating and needing from our church home. With this in mind, our post college young adults are in the process of emerging into a ministry for themselves, by themselves and to their peers.

In an effort to reach all post college age young adults (married, single, parents, engaged and others) the church office would like your name, cell phone number and e-mail address. You can e-mail the church with this information at this email. Information will be text messaged to you regarding the next get together.

MEN’S MINISTRY

Join us for breakfast each Tuesday morning at 7:00 AM for Bible study and breakfast. We meet at Four Coins Restaurant, 2700 34th Street North. Bring your Bible and a friend!

Outreach

We are active in outreach. Below are some of the recent outreach efforts in our community. They range widely, but all are focused to bring the name of Jesus to those beyond our walls.

  1. to lead worship on a Sunday at a local rehab center/nursing home
  2. the painting of two apartments at the Resurrection House
  3. a fall festival at Beth-el Mission, migrant mission in central Florida
  4. help to paint along with construction projects at the Women’s Club where we hold worship
  5. to help with yard work, painting and repair of a house owned by a member of the military currently serving in Iraq

Currently, we have donated funds to the EPC (Evangelical Presbyterian Church) to support mission causes as well as women’s ministry within our denomination www.epc.org.

Tom and Carol Clark in Peru, along with their family, who were commended by Hiawassa Bible Chapel in Orlando, Florida in 1985, minister to the needs of people in the northern sector of Peru. In October of 2002, the Lord opened doors to the state-run Morningstar Children’s Home, just a few miles outside of Chiclayo. Visiting every Saturday, they share the gospel with the 60+ children who live there. They lead singing, teach Bible verses and stories, play games and teach crafts. A team teaches vocational skills to the older children and tutor others academically. As God provides, they share groceries, clothing, medical materials and school supplies, also offering maintenance and repairs to families in need. The Clarks are involved with Strong Tower Christian School, which began in August, 2007. Their vision is to add one grade per year until all 12 grades are functioning. Education is also provided to the children from the orphanage. We proudly supports the Clarks through Morningstar Childreach Ministries, Inc.

Cornerstone Bible Church helps to support missionaries, Jeff and Jen Kliewer, in Pennsylvania. Evangelism is a central emphasis of Jeff and Jen’s ministry – through the Church, on the streets, and in their home. Their primary ministry has been to teens, though they minister to children, women and men as well. Please check out the Kliewer’s ministry. You will need to put in the Login: friendofgod and Password: john15.

We are researching a cause in Africa where we could receive matching funds to provide water to 1250 families.

We continue to support a medical clinic in Honduras.

ANGEL TREE MINISTRY

Each year at Christmas time our church is blessed with the opportunity to serve the children of inmates here in the area. We serve through the Angel Tree Ministry between 35 and 40 children, and hope to increase our numbers each year. The Prison Fellowship Ministry sends us the names of children whose parent, step-parent, grandparent or other family member is in prison, and the child is cared for by relatives here in our area. We contact the family member (care giver) and find out what items the child wants and needs, then our congregation generously buys Christmas presents for these children. Each child gets 2 gifts given by us from their incarcerated parent. It gives them a wonderful Christmas from their parent and us the opportunity to serve then in Christ’s name and tell them of his gift to us.

We also provide a party and invite the family to come, eat with us, play games, and hear the story of the nativity and Christ’s sacrifice for our sins. This is such a wonderful time and we love to see the smiles as the gifts are given to the children. They are able then to take their gifts home and see what their parent has “given” them. No where on the gift is our name or the name of the church; it is a gift from their parent. We often are able to serve siblings in the home with one gift as well.

This is an opportunity for everyone in the church to participate, either with buying gifts, donating to the party, bringing a covered dish, or hosting a table with our guests. We also offer a craft for them to make for themselves, a picture taken of the family with a copy for their home, and one to be sent to the incarcerated parent. This is such a blessing to the inmate as well, and we receive thank you notes from them each year thanking us for helping them do Christmas blessings for their child. I know we are blessed as much or more then anyone that participates in this giving opportunity.
